Ultraedits constant nags for upgrading make it useless to me. Textpad will email you your license key 4 years after you have purchased their product, IDM won’t do that 3 months after purchase.

in Notepad++ its the left margin grey area with the numbers the spacing is too thick it needs to be slimmed down

I have been using EditPadLite the freeware version of EditPadPro and I would be lost without it – reason – it has TAB capability like Firefox tabs.

Before that I was using EditPad (which is now called EditPad (classic).

In the early 90′s I was using Notepad+, but IMHO EditPadLite is far superior.

EditPad Pro has a lot of features which I wouldn’t use anyway, it is oriented much towards programmers, so I can’t see upgrading, not because EditPadLite is free, but because after purchasing EditPadPro, I would still only be using the features available in EditPad Lite.

The same author has a program called AceText, which is designed to organize text and html files into hierarchal structures for the purpose of organizing Info. It also comes in a Lite (free) and Pro version.

Search and replace for newline chars (\r or \n) using regex doesn’t work in PSPad or Notepad++, the mailing lists suggest fixes (searching in reverse only in Notepad++ IRCC). Poor bugs that have not been fixed due to what appears to be the authors inability to fix them.

Check out the mailing lists & forums for these editors. Very bad.

It’s Fast, supports drag and drop and doesn’t have any file size limitations.

Basically its like Win2000/XP’s Notepad but smaller and faster!
